It isn’t really tanning in our sense or in the hairless dogs’ sense. The nose just goes from solid black to liver brown. It is kind of like tanning, but in tanning the normal color isn’t darker. And it’s only the nose that gets brown. The lips and skin around the eyes remains black. If it were tanning, it would all turn brown.

Red lab puppies has liver color nose. A red dilute would have a pale liver nose. Color Change Over Time on a Nose. This is a series of nose pigment color changes over a span of approximately 3 1/2 years. Photos of Fibi (Fibi CGC FM ) are courtesy of Tanya. The breed standard allows unpigmented areas on a puppy's nose as long as they fill in with pigment by the first year. A yellow dog, therefore, possesses the genetic code for black (eeBB or eeBb) or for chocolate (eebb). A Labrador with the double recessive on the E locus still can produce eumelanin in his nose, flews and eye rims, generally causing them to be black in color. A dog who has brown pigment in those areas can be assumed to carry chocolate. A yellow new-born Labrador puppy’s nose pigmentation is light pink and these puppies will grow up as our common light Labradors. Brown Labrador puppy’s tip of the nose is brown and will remain so for the rest of its life. However, after they are born, the dark red Labradors have dark red nose pigmentation. He is all white with a pink nose and light green eyes. He has liver spots on his nose and legs and coarse white hair. I was thinking he may have Schnauzer genes because he has the “crazy” hair that droops over his eyes, snout, and mouth. He is a little guy but has long legs. I am hoping he keeps his eye color because he has my green eyes! LOL!

If you're planning on getting a Yellow Lab to show it in conformation (dog shows), then you should not get a puppy that has a pink nose - it's a disqualification at shows. However, that applies only to true "pink" noses. Some Lab noses are a brownish color called "liver", and some Labs' noses also tend to fade toward liver as they get older. A recessive red Liver will still be born with a Liver nose and amber/yellow eyes. It is common for the nose of any recessive red dog to fade to pink as they grow older. Livers, like any dog, can also be covered with varying amounts of white which will hide the color of the fur. Many Labrador retrievers exhibit distinct nose pigmentation features that can often be puzzling to their owners. In most cases, the color of a Lab’s nose often reflects the color of its coat. This is particularly true with a chocolate Lab or black Lab. However, a yellow Lab often experiences a change in its nose pigmentation as it matures. I have a beautiful, big 60-pound, six-month-old male chocolate lab. He has a very dark brown coat and his nose matches the color of his coat. However, he has pink eye rims. I wonder if this qualifies him as Dudley. The pink eye rims add to his unique look.

The Silver Lab is a lovable and active breed with a heart of gold. The Silver Lab is a color variation of the Chocolate Lab.They have the exact same playful personality of standard Labs and make fantastic family dogs. This breed will love being the center of attention and even first time owners will be delighted with a lovable pooch that is quite easy to train and care for. A few years ago, I mated my female fox red Lab to a lovely fox red working stud dog, and had the pleasure and privilege of raising a litter of fox red puppies. They were not the darkest fox red you’ll ever see, but still a beautiful color. A Dudley Lab is a Labrador retriever that lacks pigmentation on the eyes, eye rims, muzzle, and nose. Because some people believe that any Labradors with reduced nose pigmentation are also Dudley Labradors. There are three types of noses that a yellow Lab can have. Black, brown or pink. If a yellow Lab has two genes that encode for chocolate then the dog will have liver (chocolate) pigment also known as a "Dudley" and this can vary from very light flesh colored on a light yellow to a dark brown on a red or dark yellow. These different combinations can arise from various breedings depending on what color the parents are AND.

Sometimes a black nose on a yellow Lab gets lighter, sometimes turn pink. Snowie's nose is black and still is at 5 years of age. His stomach skin was black as a puppy. That lightened, kind of mottled dark pink/brown now. Labrador colors fox red. Fox red Lab puppies are actually yellow Lab puppies in disguise! Red Lab puppies inherit more than one set of genes that influence how the yellow coat color is expressed. With sufficient appropriate genetic influence the yellow coat can actually express as a rich, vibrant red! Red Labrador Retreiver fetching toy in water Source: Jmcgraw11 The key difference is that yellow labs are a honey yellow or tan colour, while a red Lab will have a distinct reddish tint to its coat. Regardless of the shade, this type of dog can be determined by the colouring on its head and ears. Your Lab’s nose can turn pink while it heals, but its pigment will usually return after some time. A Labrador Retriever may be born with a pink or liver nose. A yellow Labrador can have a Dudley Nose. A Dudley Labrador is a yellow Labrador Retriever who has no pigmentation on his muzzle, eyes, eye rims, and nose.
